Boston Post Road runs right through the heart of Westbrook, and for over two decades Edd's Place sat at that address feeding the town. Edd Hannett built something rare here, a cafe with a genuine personality, the kind of place where regulars have a usual and newcomers feel like regulars by the time they leave. That's a hard thing to hand off, and it's even harder to preserve.

Liz Wood, a Westbrook native, took on that responsibility when she became the new owner and operator, and she's done it right. The cafe's character, its unhurried pace, its honest cooking, its connection to the shoreline community, has carried forward without missing a beat. Travelers rolling up from Arizona or locals grabbing a late lunch all tend to leave with the same reaction: they didn't expect something this good.

"So totally not what you expect we had to stop. It's a very small building. The food was good. You basically had to eat outside though because there was no room to eat inside. The service was quick. The waitress was wonderful everyone around us and to be like by five to six other couples. All thoroughly enjoyed their food. It was just basic good phone cooking. Definitely a place to stop at least once. You can bring your dog when you sit outside. There's a little area you know for kids to get their faces and pictures taken. I would describe it more as just a cute place for a quick bite."

"Ed’s Place in Westbrook, Connecticut, is an absolute gem. On a cold, rainy day, it was the perfect cozy spot with a beautiful view of the water and the comforting smell of homemade food filling the air. I had a homemade biscuit with a house-made sausage patty, eggs, and cheese, along with a fresh cup of local coffee that tasted like it was brewed with real care. My best friend ordered the oatmeal topped with fresh strawberries, walnuts, and honey, and everything was fresh and delicious. I also treated myself to a blueberry scone, and couldn’t resist bringing home one of their homemade Hostess cupcakes for my significant other. Everything was flavorful, homemade, and served with a welcoming, small-town charm. I highly recommend Ed’s Place — it’s a true local treasure. (Took photos after taking bites! Couldn’t help myself!)"
